Our in-house team designs all of our furniture, combining classical design history with the best of contemporary styles, following which our highly skilled master craftspeople hand-make each piece individually with specialist skills perfected over generations.
Christopher Hopkins, our Brand Manager, personally chose the following models that were best suited for the Chinese room. Finished in fabrics from Britain’s leading fabric houses such as Linwood and Colefax & Fowler. These styles are available in different sizes, feature a choice of perfect seat and back interiors, and if necessary, can be modified to create your perfect choice. Find out more about our wonderful range of styles.
The Ambassador
Our Ambassador sofa features classical Knole styling combined with modern comfort. The high sides on this style were originally conceived to protect the seated person from draughts. The sides are hinged which was also a feature of classical furniture of this type. The purpose? To make space for the fashionable full dresses worn then. Now it is a delightful decorate feature, complete with turned wooden finials, and exquisite opulent tassels. To preserve the wooden floor, we opted to have no castors on these sofas and applied felt pads. This model has the option of two castor colours, and a choice of colours for the wooden legs and finials. Choose from three sizes for this design.
Tip: Like this style? Why not take a look at our Magnum range or Madison range for similar Knole styling.
The Chesterfield
The classical Chesterfield design is instantly recognisable worldwide. Our Chesterfield offers this heritage design combined with modern comfort. The deep buttoning is hand sewn by our skilled Northumbrian artisans. Of all the styles we chose for this scheme, the Chesterfield is the design that would most likely to have originally furnished the Hall in days gone by. This style can be as much at home in a very modern environment as it can be in classical surroundings. The rich jewel like velvet chosen for this model really suits this model, as would leather as shown above. With good care a leather Chesterfield will age gracefully and could become a well loved heirloom in the future. Choose from three sizes including a delightful loveseat.
Tip: Our Natasha chair with its buttoning detail, is a perfect occasional chair to accompany the Chesterfield sofa. If you like the Chesterfield you may also like the Oxford sofa, which is a more compact unbuttoned sofa, in the Chesterfield style.
The Jarvis chair
You may think that wing chairs can be large and overbearing in your room. The Jarvis however, offers neat classical styling, and of course wonderful comfort. The Jarvis chosen for Howick Hall is finished in Moon wool with a herringbone texture. This naturistic look is perfect for the Chinese room with its intricate chinoiserie wallpaper. For your own home, why not try a bold print to make this your statement chair? Or a rich jewel tone velvet? The possibilities are endless at Delcor. The chair shown above features contrast piping-another way to make your chair stand out from the crowd! This chair can also have castors and the wooden legs can be finished in the colour of your choice. The Jarvis wing chair is the perfect companion to our larger Georgian wing chair, it can then help create more of an eclectic decor style, rather than having matching pieces.
Tip: Why not add a footstool? Relax, and put your feet up in style! See our popular Chelsea footstool, or for storage options, why not try the Deluxe footstool? Make it a statement piece with a wonderful vibrant fabric. Choose something totally individual.
The Georgian wing chair
The Georgian wing chair is another instantly recogniseable style from historical times. A country house staple, our Georgian wing chair combines generous Georgian styling with the wings, originally to keep the seated person from draughts. This chair is the perfect space to take time for yourself, read a book or listen to music. This design will never date, it is a true classic that will compliment any interior design. Imagine this chair in your home, finished in your fabric from a world of choices. Or perhaps choose leather like we have above, this olive green leather is such a timeless look. Taken care of, this chair could become a well loved family heirloom in the future. For the finishing touches choose the colour of the wooden legs and the studding detail. Create something totally individual for your home.
Tip: Our Georgian wing chair is the perfect style chair to suit many of our models such as the Smithfield sofa and the Edwardian sofa. See more beautiful designs in your nearest destination showroom.
The Fireside footstool
The Fireside footstool is a wonderfully generous stool. Available buttoned or unbuttoned, both versions lend themselves to becoming a statement piece in your scheme. Finished in rich sumptuous velvet, as shown above, to add a feeling of luxury to your home decor. The Fireside stool is a comfortable place to sit, by the fire perhaps, or as additional seating when you have visitors. You can choose from straight legs like the ones above, or a turned leg. Legs available with or without castors in your choice of colour.
Tip: The Fireside buttoned footstool looks wonderful with our Chesterfield sofa. The unbuttoned Fireside footstool matches our Oxford sofa. For more footstools browse our complete range and see them at your nearest destination showroom.
